Keep in mind various factors will determine your actual transfer charge.  Here's a few...

1.  Variation of recording speeds
2.  Various recording levels:  Material was recorded by a variety of machines at different times.
3.  2 Tracks play at the same time:  Material bleed or cross-talk is caused by aged, poorly stored magnetic tape.
4.  Poor quality of tape material:   Brittle or shredding tape, magnetic tape separating from cobolt backing or chemical contamination.  Aged magnetic recording material may become unplayable due to the binder or the chemical added to the binder used to adhere the magnetic material to the backing becomes unstable.

Suggested storage of magnetic tape material:

Tapes should be kept away from magnetic fields.  Do not stack magnetic tapes on top of equipment or near speakers or magnets!

Temperature changes are not friendly to magnetic audio tape material.  They should always be stored in a clean, controlled environment.  Storage at temperatures greater than 74°F increases tape pack tightness.  Storage with humidity greater than 70% relative humidity, results in increased degradation of the binder due to the higher moisture content of the tape pack.  Temperatures lower than 32° F may actually harm the media and shorten not extend life expectancy by risking shedding of the lubricant from the binder, which may clog heads.
Dust, finger prints, smoke particles and tape debris in the environment will result in dropouts when the tape is subsequently played.
